Looking for a Fall internship?
Calling all PR students & recent grads!
Still looking for an internship? Eisbrenner PR is looking for a motivated, energetic, talented PR student to be a fall intern! They are looking for a 20-40 hour/week commitment, but are willing to adjust based on your schedule! The internship is paid and they just moved offices to Downtown Royal Oak (not that you should need any more convincing).
Grand Rapids to Royal Oak is a long way to travel for an internship, but the internship is paid and with the potential for a career, this could be a great opportunity for you!

Interested in attending National Conference this year?
Interested in going to National Conference in Washington, D.C. this year?
Want to know more about what the experience will bring to you? Here are a few tips that the National PRSSA e-board gave us to make our experience better:
- Dress professional for the Conference and appropriately for the events.
- Bring souveniers from your state or school to exchange at the Friday night social.
- Prepare a spirited Chapter cheer for the Roll Call at the Keynote Address.
- Attend as many Chapter and Professional Development sessions as time permits.
- Read your Conference program and highlight your first- and second-choice sessions in advance.
- Since all sessions are offered ona first-come-first-served basis, plan to arrive early.
- Take plenty of notes.
- Don’t be afraid to ask your presenters questions or for contact information.
- Introduce yourself to PRSSA members from other Chapters.
- Attend as many PRSA General Session as you can to mingle with PRSA members.
- Always wear your name badge and carry your tickets with you.
- If you are attending an event that requires pre-registration, ensure you have your tickets be fore you leave the registration and check-in areas.
- Talk to as many public relations professionals as you can to learn more about the field.
- Bring plenty on resumes and business cards.
- Drop by the hospitality booth for suggestions on what to see and do in Washington, D.C.
- Don’t be afraid to ask the National Committee, National Conference Committee or our Conference volunteers questions about Conference or Washington, D.C.
- Exchange e-mail addresses and phone numbers with your new friends.
- Network, network, network!
- MOST IMPORTANT–HAVE FUN!!! Be aware of your environmentpossible to reduce a thief’s targets. Keep your wallet or purse under your control always.
SAFETY TIPS
The Conference Committee wants you to have a fun time in Washington, D.C., but they also want you to be safe. Here are some safety tips:

Walk in groups — never alone. Walk briskly and with confidence to your destination.

Keep a major credit card and a picture ID seperate from your wallet or purse.
-
Use a taxi service when traveling at night, especially if you’re alone. Bring cash to pay the driver.

Use traveler’s checks or credit cards instead of cash when possible. Carry the fewest number of items
-
Be mindful of valuables. Don’t put valuable on the floor when in the bathroom or on the back of your chair at a restaurant.

Ladies should avoid wearing valuable, loose-fitting jewelry.

Be aware of scams. Ignore person who stop to as you meaningless questions.

Have fun, but make sure your actions are lawful and becoming of a pre-professional.
Now that you know how to get the most out of your experience, you’re probably asking yourself how much is this oging to cost? Here is a breakdown of the expenses for National Conference!
- Registration: $295
- Flight: Estimated $270
- Hotel: Per night $239 double, $249 triple, $259 quad (each person must have their own bed, hotel and conference rules)
- Food: $125
=Roughly $1,000 each member

Regional Activity Bid.
Grand Valley’s PRSSA Chapter is looking forward to putting in a bid for Regional Acitivity for the 2010-2011 school year. GVSU’s PRSSA Chapter has appointed Kim Baughman as the Regional Activity Committee Chair! Kim has some really great ideas:
- Possible themes: Health Communications, Political campaign strategies, Large Corporations (HermanMiller, Steelcase, Amways, etc.), Sports (Whitecaps and Griffins)
- Possible PR Firm’s, Agencies, Organizations to speak?: Lambert, Edwards & Associates, West Michigan PRSA, Hanon McKendry, 834 Baba.
- Get other Universities in the area involved: Davenport, Hope, Western, Cornerstone, etc.
