Thirteen of our members attended the PRSSA National Conference in San Diego. We went to numerous sessions, networked with other students, and were cool enough to have t-shirt copiers. It was amazing to say the least.

Here are a few quotes of what we learned while representing GVSU:

Heather DeWitt:
Definitely how to utilize resources and connections to my advantage, whether they are on social media sites, PR professionals, or fellow students. I’ve been on Twitter non-stop since!”

Leah Zuber:
“Attending the National Conference reinforced my choice to study public relations. I met outgoing, professional students from across the country, learned countless information about the profession and became close with the girls who went on the trip. The conference increased my motivation to do well in the profession. I hope the information and ideas I take back with me will motivate current Grand Valley PRSSA members to attend next year.”

Ebony Arnold:

“As young PR professionals, we must…
  • …be lifetime learners.
  • …be proactive in the workplace and ask for feedback from senior staff members.
  • …be current, be curious, and be creative.
  • …actively intern and volunteer at various organizations and companies.”
Melissa Masson:
“A quote from Arianna Huffington’s keynote speech resonated with me for its simplicity and straightforwardness: ‘The new economy is the linked economy.’ This sums up what we’ve been hearing in class, from pr professionals and the media- that social media is here to stay. If you haven’t jumped on the bandwagon then you’re already left in the dust. Tweet tweet.”

Sarah Myles:
“The conference really opened my eyes to the fact that you can do anything you put your mind to as long as your willing to make sacrifices and go the extra mile.  Most people start at the bottom and if that’s were you begin, make sure you put your all into the tasks assigned because you never know what doors may open down the road from just being enthusiastic about walking the company dog.”

Christa Skelton:
“The PRSSA National Conference rocked! I got to know some of the girls from PRSSA better, as well as learn more about the industry as a whole. I also learned that in some cases, not all PR is good PR and if you want to get to know someone, ask them what their dream job is.”
